Be Part Of A Creative Republic
05/02/2009

Hello, hope that you are all staying positive and being creatively active. We think it’s the only way through the doom and gloom of the economic situation. Rhubarb has some plans lined up and we think you’ll enjoy them. So watch the web site for news.

One thing is clear. Creatives need to be heard and listened to more closely. We’ve been working with a newly formed body that seeks to reflect the needs and interests of the creative industries in the West Midlands. The aim is to create a voice for the industry. You can find out about its aspirations by clicking here on www.creativerepublic.org.uk. You may remember that Creative Republic supported our Photography Promenade last summer at the International Review.

In order to put the case for the creative industries to local and national government bodies and funding agencies (such as the various City Councils in the region, the Arts Council, Crafts Council, MLA, the BERR [that used to be the DTI] and Advantage West Midlands) Creative Republic needs to know what the people working in and for the creative industries think -

What they feel passionately about… What they want to change... What they want to keep… And what they can create for the region. (For example, they have an event on 11 Feb that will form part of the Big City Plan consultation which will provide creatives with their opportunity to feed into the consultation process in a painless way, and have their voice heard)

And to ask you to their events and in their consultations, they need to know who you are.

So Creative Republic’s request is that you click on www.creativerepublic.org.uk/charter, enter your details and “sign up” to its charter. Sign up as an individual or on behalf of your company, it doesn’t matter which. It does matter that you sign. When they have your name on file they will:

- ask your opinion on questions of policy;
- research what you want from an industry body so they can give it to you if they can;
- invite you to events; and
- invite you to participate as much (or as little) as you want to in the life of our sector.

They want you on board so they can look partners and funders in the eye and say “this is what we, as an industry, as a region, think”.

What do you think? Worth a try? Rhubarb Rhubarb is supporting this new body in making its voice heard – please sign up to the Charter and join the debate.

Best Wishes
